Cathryn Lucas

Cathryn Lucas is a Ph.D. candidate in Health and Sport Studies at the University of Iowa. She actively works to combine teaching, research, and service into her everyday praxis. She is researching and writing about sport and physical activity from an anti-racist, transgender perspective. She is currently working on a project which examines the spatialized metaphors used to construct transgender subjectivity. She is also busy queering the fitness industry through culturally & politically conscious personal training and working toward gender, race, and economic justice as an organizer for the graduate student employee union at UIowa: UE Local 896-COGS. In the precious moments of free time, Cathryn enjoys lifting heavy weights and riding her bike(s).
