Charles Westmoreland

Chuck Westmoreland is Assistant Professor of History at Delta University where he teaches a variety of courses in modern U.S. and southern history, including a course on sport and the American experience. He is currently completing a book manuscript on religion and politics in the South from the era of the modern civil rights movement through the rise of the New Christian Right. His next book project will explore the role of sport in the creation of the Sunbelt South by focusing on the sporting history and culture of Charlotte, North Carolina, since World War II. In addition to these projects, he is also conducting research on various cultural aspects of professional wrestling from the 1970s through the 1990s. When he is not spending time with family, teaching and writing, he likes to play basketball and tennis, cheer on the Duke Blue Devils, and watch classic wrestling clips on YouTube.
